There are definitely many factors that determine the price of a used car – mileage, condition, demand among them.

And there are many places to check the going price of used cars, one of the most thorough is MotorTrend.

On their very comprehensive site you can search used car prices by model, make, year among other things.  While it won’t give you the price of the used car you have you eye on, if you’re still looking for the best used car for yourself, but perhaps not sure what to buy but you have a budget in mind, the MotorTrend site will give you a reasonable idea of how much you can expect to pay – ballpark price, for your Winnipeg used car or truck, in other words!

Consumer Reports developed a list of the most reliable used cars, and used cars – models from Toyota and Honda, seemed to dominate the best used car list. In addition to asking the usual questions about mileage, condition and the used car’s history there are some other things prospective Winnipeg used car buyers should know.

I’ve outlined many on usedcarsinwinnipeg.com but in case you need to know more, here are a few new used car buying tips from Consumer Reports for buying a used car in Winnipeg :

 

  • Know how to spot collision damage by looking for things like mismatched panels or doors, hoods and trunks that don’t shut the right way.
  • Beware of flood damage. Signs can include hints of mold and mildew, discolored carpets or occasional electrical problems.
  • Step on the gas of that used car and listen for things like pings while accelerating that can be a hint of an engine that could overheat.
  • Get a vehicle’s history report to look for things like odometer fraud, past accident damage and other potential problems.
  • And have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic you trust.
